چکیده

Clustering of cosmic-ray sources a†ects the Ñux observed beyond the cuto† imposed by the cosmic microwave background and may be important in interpreting the AGASA, FlyÏs Eye, and HiRes data. The standard deviation, p, in the predicted number N of events above 1020 eV is p/N \ 0.9(r0/10 Mpc)0.9, where is the unknown scale length of the correlation function Mpc for Ðeld galaxies, r0 (r0^ 10 km s~1 Mpc~1). Future experiments will allow the determination of through the detection of H0\ 50 r0 anisotropies in arrival directions of D1020 eV cosmic rays over angular scales of Mpc. # D r0/30 Subject headings : acceleration of particles È cosmic rays È cosmology : theory È large-scale structure of universe

Clustering of cosmic-ray sources affects the flux observed beyond the cutoff imposed by the cosmic microwave background and may be important in interpreting the AGASA, Fly’s Eye, and HiRes data. The standard deviation, σ, in the predicted number, N , of events above 10 eV is σ/N = 0.9(r0/10Mpc) 0.9, where r0 is the unknown scale length of the correlation function (r0 ≃ 10 Mpc for field galaxies...

Can high energy neutrino annihilation on relic neutrinos generate the observed highest energy cosmic-rays?

Annihilation of high energy, ∼ 10eV, neutrinos on big bang relic neutrinos of ∼ 1eV mass, clustered in the Galactic halo or in a nearby galaxy cluster halo, has been suggested to generate, through hadronic Z decay, high energy nucleons and photons which may account for the detected flux of > 10eV cosmic-rays. We show that the flux of high energy nucleons and photons produced by this process is ...

Time Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation

Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...

Constraints on the Production of Ultraèhigh-energy Cosmic Rays by Isolated Neutron Stars

The energetics, spectrum, and composition of cosmic rays with energies below D1015 eV are fairly well explained by models involving supernova shocks. In contrast, no widely accepted theory exists for the origin of ultraÈhigh-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs), which have energies above 1015 eV. Instead of proposing a speciÐc model, here we place strong constraints on any model of UHECRs involving isol...
